The Kommunale Ausländer:innenvertretung (KAV) is an elected advisory body in Frankfurt that represents the interests of residents without German citizenship in local political processes. It exists to ensure that the voices of Frankfurt’s diverse international community are heard by the city’s decision-making bodies.
The KAV works as a bridge between the City Council, city administration, local associations and everyday residents. It brings forward perspectives on integration, education and equal participation in city life. Within its mandate, the KAV can submit proposals, participate in municipal hearings, and advise on matters that directly affect immigrant communities.
The importance of integration is underlined by the fact that about a quarter of Frankfurt’s population are non-German citizens, and many more are part of immigrant families or of dual citizenship. Participation in the KAV helps ensure that civic life reflects this diversity and that policies support equitable participation for all
